We cannot ruin our nation after the freedom we have received on Nov 4th. As friends of Obama we need to be hard on him, tough on him in his early decisions. We cannot let him go far that we cannot straighten him.
Sonal Shah, one of his advisors is claimed to have fascist connections. The piece has appeared in media, one of the respectable Newspapers. We have to look at her individual record and not that of her family members. Individuals do wrong (or right) and not their families or faiths. I hope Sonal is clean, but it needs to be affirmed, one bad apple can ruin his administration.
We need to watch Rahm, what we read and hear about him is not good. Obama needs to put him through some tests if his heart and mind is open towards other people. We need to know if Rahm is prejudiced against Palestinians, if he is, he will be an obstacle to peace in the middle east ruining every chance for the Israelis to have peace and security, and continued hopelessness for the Palestinians. We have had bad policies in the Middle East for the last sixty years, we cannot continue with them for another sixty, it is time to change now and yes we can.
Peace in Middle East is a reality if justice to both the parties is ensured. We need to be a catalyst for a realizable hope for Palestinians and genuine security for the Israelis, where both people can drop their guards and feel safe. Sixty years have gone by because of the policies of Palestinian, Israeli and American leadership. It has to change; the “Justness” element has to be included now.
I hope the people at FOX will do something good finally and wash away their sins. Let them be hard on Obama, to ensure beneficial decisions are made for our country. Meanwhile, we have to build a strong opposition to prevent Obama to become the Unilateral Bush with such a mandate. The purpose is to have a clean administration. Let him take the bloody time to put people who are inclusive and respectful of every human. We can't let short-sightedness creep in.
On the international front; what is good for America has to be good for the World and vice versa to be sustainable. We cannot have advantages over the others; they are deleterious to lasting peace.
No VHP links, our family condemns Gujarat riots, says Sonal Shah's brother - We have to give her the benefit of doubt; however, it must be verified. We have a chance now to create a better world for every one of the 6.5 Billion of us and we should not compromise.
Update: I just watched meet the press; Valerie Jarrett, the leader of the transition team was eloquent in her interview and re-assured that the appointees will have "an inclusive approach" towards problem Solving. I am however disappointed in Tom Brokaw for not pinning down for the specifics of that approach include. Obama team member has Sangh linksThis is a serious one. Write to all Americans and congress about this matter. Mosi is a persona non grata and this lady devil should be ousted from America.
Obama Team Member Has 'Fascist' Sangh Links
U.S. President-elect Barack Obama may have cultivated a left-of-center image for himself, but Sonal Shah, the Indian-American advisor in his transition team, has well established rightwing leanings.
The 40-year-old economist has been associated with the overseas activities of the Sangh Parivar. She was a national coordinator of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America campaign to raise funds for Gujarat earthquake victims in 2001.
Her father Ramesh Shah, a vice-president of the Overseas Friends of the Bharatiya Janata Party (OFBJP), had campaigned for LK Advani in Gandhinagar during the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. He had also briefly traveled with Advani during his Bharat Udaya Yatra, countrywide election tour.
Sonal’s brother Amit and sister Rupal are now based in Ahmedabad, running a voluntary organisation, indicorps. Its website says its aim is to “engage the most talented young Indians from around the world on the frontlines of India’s most pressing challenges”.“I returned to India eight years ago,” Amit told HT before suddenly deciding not to talk any further. An SMS from Rupal said “no comments from here”, and added that Sonal be contacted through email for any queries.
A senior functionary of the fascist Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), involved in the global activities of the Parivar, said only Ramesh is associated with its activities. “He works with the OFBJP and supports, among other things, the Ekal Vidyalayas,” the functionary said. Ekal Vidyalayas are single-teacher primary schools run by the RSS with the aim of inculcating Hindu values in children, mostly in tribal regions.
The Shah family hails from Sabarkantha in Gujarat but Sonal was born in Mumbai. Ramesh Shah moved to the U.S. in 1970. Two years later, Sonal, Rupal and their mother joined him in New York. The family later moved to Houston. Sonal has worked as vice-president with Goldman Sachs and also in the U.S. Department of Treasury.

As an Indicorps Fellow, I had the immense opportunity to spend a year pushing myself to break down the barriers that inhibit development work. I worked in tribal Tamil Nadu, India alongside a hilltop community of Adivasis to further a community defined initiative of creating sustainable systems to address a lack of food security.
The most important realization that I came to by the end of my year was that it may not be what you do, but the bhavana or the spirit with which you do it that makes the real impact. In social work. In India. In life.
Sonal Shah's bhavana or spirit of selfless service has marked her career and her life. She has, much like the President-Elect, worked to build bridges with diverse and far flung communities. She has proven her conviction to her principles through various capacities thus earning her the distinction to work alongside an inspiring and inspired group of people to make hope possible.
“To be truly radical is to make hope possible rather than despair convincing” - Raymond Williams
Let's take this opportunity to rally around Sonal. To be part of hope rather than despair. To bring forth light instead of darkness.
