Sri Lanka overpowers RAW-supported rebellion

Waqar Ahmed

Recently, Sri Lankan security forces surprised the international community by successfully dismantling the strongholds of the RAW-supported insurgency and by re-capturing 98 percent territories after defeating the Tigers, belonging to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) who had created a state within the state in the Northern Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapakse, while announcing country's victory in the prolonged war of 25 years, has said that the Tigers will be completely defeated very soon as "last shadows of terrorism have almost been wiped out." He further warned the Tamil Tiger militants "to surrender or face a complete disaster."

The military sources of Sri Lanka disclosed that the Tigers had been restricted to an area less than 100 square kilometers in the Jungle of northeastern district of Mullaittivu. Taking cognizance of imminent defeat of the Tamil Tigers, India has started playing double game. New Delhi's leaders, with the support of strong Indo-western lobbies are propagating in the world that Sri Lankan forces are killing the innocent Tamils. RAW-financed various pressure groups have become proactive covertly through Indian and international media in order to bring about duress on Colombo for a ceasefire with the Tamil insurgents. The real aim behind Indian shrewd diplomacy is that a truce will provide the Tamil Tigers with appropriate time for regrouping and re-organizing themselves for ambush attacks again.

India's main Tamil Nadu party, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and other similar parties are demanding the Indian rulers to intervene for pressurizing the Sri Lankan government to stop massacre of the Tamils.

LTTE's demoralized leader, Vellupillai Prabhakaran has already escaped to India with the help of RAW as his insurgents are on the verge of defeat, while Indian newspapers are revealing false reports that he is still in Sri Lanka and is leading the Tigers. For example, on January 26, 2009, Express India reported that LTTE leader "Prabhakaran has already tried shifting from one bunker to another or from one hiding place to the next in Wanni. But he cannot escape from the country." On January 27, The Times of India also expressed similar thoughts and defended the cause of Tamil Tigers. In fact, the Tamil militants are under siege by the Sri Lankan Defence forces who have restricted the later to a patch of jungle in the northeastern island. Prabhakaran had no other option except to flee to India from where his rebel fighters have been getting aid.

Since 1983, India openly decided to support the insurgents. The number of Sri Lankan Tamils' training camps increased in Tamil Nadu and Indian other major cities, especially Mumbai. More than 60,000 Tamil militants had been provided with safe-havens, finance, sophisticated weaponry and training in the guerrilla warfare by the Indian Government. Indian military instructors and RAW agents supplied every possible aid to the Tamil Tigers. Thus they built their own army, navy and air force to resist the Sri Lankan forces. The RAW-backed Tamil Tigers left no stone unturned in destabilizing a tiny South Asian state by waging a civil war coupled with the deadliest subversive acts. The brutal tactics employed by the Tamil Tigers have resulted in the organization, being banned as a terrorist organization in 32 countries such as United States, Japan, Australia, European Union, Canada etc. Even Interpol had issued warrants of Prabhakaran who had massacred more nearly 200 people in an explosion in Sri Lanka.

Indian intervention through RAW-supported insurgency is not confined to Sri Lanka only; the fact of the matter is that the agency contains multiple aims to advance New Delhi's dominance over all the regional states. Therefore, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), which was created in 1968 has been playing a vital role in country's external policies, being fulfilled by all overt and covert techniques. RAW agents are on special mission in Pakistan, China, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar and Sri Lanka to create lawlessness in the areas which are most vulnerable to political, ethnic and sectarian differences, and which could be manipulated in achieving Indian strategic goals without caring for the stability in the region.

RAW agents who were given a new role in the 1970s to undertake secret operations in neighboring countries in accordance with the Indira Doctrine have their presence in almost all regional countries, implementing various tactics of psychological warfare. M. K Dhar in his book, "Open Secrets, India's Intelligence Unveiled" discloses that RAW's operations against the regional countries are conducted with great professional skill and expertise, which include the establishment of a huge network inside the target countries. It has used propaganda, political dissent, ethnic divisions, economic backwardness and criminal elements to foment subversion and terrorism to weaken these states in consonance with Indian regional ambitions.

Apart from Sri Lanka, Pakistan has also become a special target of unrest, being supported by RAW's secret warriors in Balochistan and FATA. After the separation of East Pakistan in 1971, Indian agency is now trying to either further disintegrate Pakistan or to destabilize its federation to the utmost. Nevertheless, Sri Lanka is going to set a historical precedence by defeating the RAW-supported insurgency. Colombo's imminent victory in this prolonged conflict over the ruthless killers like Tamil Tigers proves that if majority of the people are united and well-determined to fight the foreign-backed militants, even a small state can defeat the non-state actors being backed by the external plotters.
