Pakistan has a faced a concerted campaign of sabotage and destabilization over the past few months. The viscous Chan Akyan New Delhi strategy is based on brinkmanship and deceit. Any attack on India will be transformed into a global crisis, and India will continue to do its sabotage in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Lanka under one guise or another. During the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, both the KGB and RAW had free reign in Pakistan to blow up building and civilian targets. The last time the question was asked of him, he said “I can’t answer this question, and I won’t answer this question”.

As a matter of fact by refusing to answer the question, he actually answered it. The fact remains that the CIA routinely conducts covert operations in Pakistan. RAW is an ally. RAW also conducts routine operations against Pakistan for its own objectives. Many times the objectives overlap and the agencies help each other out.

Sources within the security establishment had been aware of an imminent attack being planned by Research & Analysis Wing - India’s premier intelligence agency.

“We had been picking up chatter and had received important information from the R&AW terrorists arrested in recent weeks. An attack was imminent. India already at war with Lanka and Bangladesh has now declared war on Pakistan.

Minister of State Nabil Ahmed Gabol said India is behind the attack on Sri Lanka’s cricket team in Lahore on Tuesday, saying the attackers had crossed into Pakistan from India.

“The evidence which we have got shows that these terrorists entered from across the border from India,” Gabol told Geo News.

“This was a conspiracy to defame Pakistan internationally. This incident took place in reaction to 26/11,” he said. It is a declaration of open war on Pakistan by India,” said the minister.Geo TV

The impact from the attack is bad for Cricket in general and South Asia in particular. Neither India, nor Bangladesh nor Sri Lanka can escape from the grave danger.

Fourteen masked, heavily armed gunmen on Tuesday launched an attack on the visiting Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore, killing six policemen and injuring seven players and officials. The driver of one of the buses in the team’s convoy was also killed. Two of the cricketers were admitted to hospital. The attack took place in Gulberg, an upmarket area of Lahore, at around 9am as the Lankan team made their way to the stadium for the third day’s play in the second Test against Pakistan.

The gunmen approached from four sides, some arriving in rickshaws and at least one car.
The driver of the team bus, Mohammad Khalil, said the terrorists fired a rocket at the vehicle but missed. They also threw a grenade under the bus, but it didn’t explode.
The driver said the vehicle was fired on from several directions but he kept his foot on the accelerator and kept going.

The vehicle carrying umpires Simon Taufel and Steve Davis and match official Chris Broad, the father of the England bowler Stuart, was also attacked. A rocket launcher and grenades were recovered from the scene. Police said the shootout lasted for about half an hour, but other reports indicated that it went on for 15 minutes. The Sri Lankan team was evacuated immediately. A military army helicopter airlifted the players to Lahore airport. The Pakistani cricket team, which was travelling about 15 minutes behind the Sri Lankans, was not caught up in the onslaught.

Already questions are being asked about the attack which showed military precision and training. Militans in Pakistan are never masked. Why were these militants masked? Who taped the proceedings of the attack and released them to the press? The attack came in the aftermath of Indian chagrin at prospect of Pakistani-Lankan cricket relations. India had openly opposed the cricket series between Pakistan and Lanka.

COLOMBO: India is not happy with Sri Lanka’s cricket tour to Pakistan, media reports said on Sunday.

The tour was hastily arranged by Pakistan after India refused to go ahead with the scheduled visit following last month’s terror attacks in Mumbai. The then interim committee of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) headed by Arjuna Ranatunga, which was later dismissed by the government, accepted the invitation to fill in for India.

But now after the government cleared the tour, Indian authorities have expressed their displeasure over the next month’s series. Independent Sunday Times quoting SLC sources said that the decision by the Ranatunga administration to undertake the tour “had irked the Indian authorities” and the matter had been discussed “at the highest levels in Colombo”.

“These sources said that SLC also received clear signals that Indian authorities were unhappy with the move to tour Pakistan when they were having political problems with that country. They said they treated the Sri Lankan move as a snub on the Indians mainly as a fallout from the Indian Premier League (IPL) issue,” the daily said. The report said that the Sri Lankan sports authorities were forced to go to the foreign ministry to get clearance for the national team’s tour to Pakistan next month “following a nose-dive in Indo-Pak relations in recent weeks”.

With sports minister Gamini Lokuge briefing President Mahinda Rajapaksa “saying that the Pakistan tour had become a diplomatic issue”. Rajapaksa then referred the matter to foreign minister Rohitha Bogollagama. Times of India

WASHINGTON, March 3 (Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Tuesday the United States was deeply concerned by an attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Pakistan and the U.S. State Department called it a “vicious attack on innocent civilians.”

A dozen gunmen attacked the team’s bus with rifles, grenades and rockets on its way to Lahore’s Gaddafi stadium, wounding six players and a British coach and killing at least eight Pakistanis, Pakistani officials said.

“The details are still coming in, and so I don’t want to be too specific,” Obama told reporters after meeting with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. “Obviously we’re deeply concerned.”

State Department spokesman Gordon Duguid condemned the incident as a “vicious attack on innocent civilians” as well as the positive relations between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Even before the blood had dried in Mumbai the Indian government had already started balming Pakistan for the attacks. Much before the bodies had not gotten rigor mortis the Indian media had created fancy animation on how the militants had come from Pakistan. The triumphalist and sensational India media hurled unfounded accusations from the first minutes of the attack on Mumbai.

ISLAMABAD, March 4 (Reuters) - Pakistani police hunted on Wednesday for gunmen who mounted the bold attack on Sri Lanka’s cricket team in Lahore and officials scrambled to figure out who was behind it.

The attack which killed eight people, six of them Pakistani police, plunged Pakistan into a “state of war”, Rehman Malik, the prime minister’s interior adviser, said. “Be patient, we will flush all these terrorists out of the country,” he added. Six members of the Sri Lankan team and a British coach were wounded in the daylight attack as their bus approached the cricket stadium. None was so seriously hurt they had to be left behind when the squad departed for Colombo on Tuesday night.

The Pakistani government is much more “mature” about this and the Pakistani media a lot more sophisticated. The world has not come to a standstill like it did when Mumbai was hit. Life goes on after the tragedy.

“We are not blaming anybody or holding anybody responsible like India did,” Taseer said. “In the next 48 hours things will be clear. We will be able to say who was behind this,” he added. Reuters.

In fact one of the biggest complaints against the Pakistani government is that they do not jump to conclusions and do not immediately begin blaming India.

Determining just who was behind the attack will be complicated by the fact that all the gunmen evaded capture. As is often the case when details are lacking, some voices here are already suggesting this could be an attack from India.

Initial reports suggest a well-coordinated assault. Masked gunmen wearing backpacks converged from four directions on the Sri Lankans’ bus as it ferried players toward the third day’s play of a test match. They fired AK-47s, grenades, and a rocket launcher, engaging police for 25 minutes before some fled in a red car. An eyewitness, a money-changer named Ghani Butt, says from 30 meters away they “looked Nepali or Filipino, maybe Indian.”

The rocket missed the bus and smashed into the “Bride and Groom” clothing shop, where the clock was frozen at 8:45. RAW agents have been killing Sri Lankans civilians with impunity in Sri Lanka for a decade. What was different this time was that they tried to kill the Sri Lankans in Pakistan. From the very begriming the Sri Lankan cricket team had been intimidated by Delhi which did not want it to go to Pakistan. At the very last moment the Indians interceded and tried to get the trip to Pakistan canceled. The Sri Lankans did not want to create an international incident so they accommodated the Indians for matches in Sri Lanka and broke their trip into two parts. They visited Pakistan, went back home to play the Indian and then went back to Pakistan to finish off the series. It was not to be–the match fell to the machinations of the Indian intelligence services who in systematic manner attacked the poor crickets.

It is a political test for Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse also as he had sent the team to Pakistan as a goodwill gesture after other teams had refused to tour there. Predictably, his political opponents stalled Parliament for a couple of hours on Tuesday.
“This is what happens in sports when politics is involved. The Sri Lanka Cricket never planned this tour,” said former Sri Lankan cricketer Ravindra Pushpakumara. A worried Rajapakse, currently in Nepal, rushed his foreign minister to Lahore and sent a special plane to bring the players back home. “It is a sad day for cricket, and we from Sri Lanka condemn all forms of violence. And particularly when violence is directed at a sporting team and a national team that is renowned, we are further saddened by this unfortunate incident,” Sri Lanka foreign minister Rohitha Bogollagama said. In a parallel to Mumbai, the gunmen were sophisticated and well armed. The Indian lobby has it all well rehearsed. Attacks in Pakistan are the fault of Pakistan itself. Attacks in India are the fault of Pakistan. Attacks in Bangladesh are the fault of Pakistan. Attacks in Sri Lanka are the fault of the Lankans. This demented logic disseminated by the bigots and their paid writers in lands across the Pacific and the Atlantic.

So Why did RAW do it? They want to isolate Pakistan and hit hard at the economic growth that Pakistan has shown for the past six decades. The aim is clear. They want to sabotage the peace deals and want Pakistan to continue to bleed with a thousand cuts.

“If [authorities] genuinely investigate it, and they do find evidence that this was the work of internal militant groups, then I’m sure it will help contribute to the people being mobilized against the terrorists and militants,” says Lt. Gen. Talat Masood (ret.).

The sheer glee in Delhi at a sad moment like this amazes the most casual observer in Pakistan. The world is astonished at the callous nature of comments that are hurled at Pakistan at a time when lives have been lost. After hearing the comments from the leaders in Delhi most Pakistanis are amazed that these very same people say “we are the same people and the borders have no relevance”. It is during a time of trial that one knows who one’s friends are.

Islamabad, Mar 3 (PTI) Pakistan today regretted statements made by Indian leaders on the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore, saying they amounted to “political point scoring”.
“Pakistan deeply regrets the spate of official statements from New Delhi on the Lahore terror attack, which (are) tantamount to political point scoring over a hugely tragic incident,” Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said in a statement.

“Terrorism afflicts South Asia as a whole and warrants serious, sustained and pragmatic cooperation at the regional plane to combat it effectively, as affirmed by the SAARC Ministerial Council in Colombo recently,” Basit said.

Indian leaders, including External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, had expressed concern at terrorism emanating from Pakistan and called for concerted action to eliminate the menace.
Eight persons, most of them policemen, were killed and over 20, including seven Sri Lankan cricketers and a coach, were injured when a dozen heavily armed terrorists attacked a bus taking the players to a stadium in the heart of Lahore. PTI

As usual the “Blame Pakistan First” crowd will come out of the woodwork and begin blaming the previous government, the religion, and the Taliban. Blind to the facts on the ground and enmity from across the border, these talking heads will begin their circuit on the networks. Old enemies of Pakistan will take solace, and the Reds (surkahs) who had been quiet for decades will again surface like mushrooms after a rain to malign Pakistani foreign policy and hold religion responsible for all misdeeds of foreign agents. The usual cast of characters from the far left will blame Musharraf and his policies, Imtiaz Alam will blame the religion, and Asma GIlani will blame all Pakistanis. Street wisdom is strong. The man or woman on the street knows the truth. The enemies of Pakistan have already been identified.

Lahore is the same city where Pakistani antiterrorism police arrested several Indian citizens and their Pakistani accomplices in the past few weeks and paraded them in public with evidence linking them to India’s spy agency Research & Analysis Wing, or RAW. Lahore lies a few kilometers away from the Indian border and has bore the brunt of India’s covert operations in the 1970s and 1980s, mostly randomly planted bombs in public places designed to spread terror.

Pakistani security officials had received a report that at least ten Indian operatives have crossed the border into Lahore 48 hours before the attacks.

India spearheaded a campaign to convince several countries to sever sports relations with Pakistanand put tremendous pressure on Sri Lanka not to send its cricket team to play here.

India has a history of supporting the terrorist LTTE group and arming it with sophisticated weapons to fight the Sri Lankan government and army. Pakistan, on the other hand, has been supporting Sri Lanka against this terrorism. India has long been disturbed by the close relationship betweenColombo and Islamabad. In this connection, Sri Lanka’s foreign minister’s statement is important. He said he won’t point fingers but said ‘terrorism has no borders’, an implied suggestion that the Sri Lankans believe the perpetrators came from outside Pakistan.

The timing of the attack shows the professional planning. Lahore administration was in a flux after the change of provincial government. Lahore was also the last Pakistani city that has not yet been affected by the fallout from America’s failed and disastrous war in Afghanistan. This incident effectively brings chaos to Lahore as well. The rest of Pakistan is already being destabilized by foreign intelligence operatives working from the Afghan soil, inserting professional saboteurs and flushing the country with money to recruit criminals and activating them under the guise of religious extremists.

In an ominous warning, Mr. Ahmed Quraishi says that India should now be prepared for retaliation from the same sort of nefarious characters that attacked the cricketers in Lahore.
