New Delhi: Reacting sharply to Home Minister P Chidambaram's statement last week in Hyderabad that the Mecca Masjid blast case has turned cold, eminent civil rights activist and general secretary of Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee, Lateef Muhammad Khan said the case is still alive as it is boiling in the minds of people. But the state police for its collusion with Hindutva groups are not cooperating with the CBI, the central investigating agency that is probing the case, Khan alleged.
"Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee (CLMC) strongly condemns the statement of Home Minister P Chidambaram that Mecca Masjid blast case has turned cold. It is not true, either Chidambaram has been misinformed by the state government or he is misguiding the people," Lateef Muhammad Khan said. "Civil Liberties wants to bring the fact that the criminals of Mecca Masjid blast are alive and the perpetrators may have close contacts with the fascist Hindutva group of police officials of Hyderabad. And it is a matter of fact that Hyderabad police is not cooperating with the CBI and investigating the case in parallel by registering another case for unexploded bombs in Mecca Masjid. Here one can understand the intention of Hyderabad police."
In the serial blasts in Hyderabad's historic Mecca Masjid on May 18, 2007, nine people were killed and when the Namazis came out on the street to protest against the blasts they were treated with police bullets and seven more were killed in the police firing, which police said they did in self defence.
Khan alleged that in the name of investigation Hyderabad police tried its best to destroy the evidence, but anyhow the facts will definitely come out. It is alleged that "Hindutva terrorists like Purohit and Pragya are behind the blast in Mecca Masjid. But the Hyderabad police or CBI did not take any initiative to investigate the case in right direction, they always suspect Muslim youths."
CLMC in a statement said: Immediately after the blasts then Addl Commissioner of Police Rajeev Trivedi unofficially declared a local youth Mohd Shahid's hand in the blast through print and electronic media. This officer is notorious for his anti Muslim attitude and his alleged involvement in Sohrabuddin and Kouser Bibi murder case.
"Civil Liberties conducted a fact finding on blast and issued a report by stating that Hindutva fascist elements are behind the blast with the collusion of a group of police officer that were involved in Sohrabuddin killing."
Lateef Khan has also strongly condemned local Muslim leaders for not taking the Mecca Masjid blast issue seriously.

"It is also a matter of deep concern that the incompetent Muslim leaders didn't take it seriously; they issued irresponsible statement regarding Macca Masjid blasts. For example Hyderabad Member of Parliament in an interview to Hindustan Times made allegation on Mohd Shahid in connection of Macca Masjid blast (Shahid was the person who was once strong supporter of this Member of Parliament).Why this Member of Parliament gave this statement, and what is the source of information, nobody knows till date. But by giving the reference of his statement the Hyderabad police in the name of investigation of the blast used inhuman torture methods on Muslim youths; Hindutva forces and communal police has taken the advantage of that statement."
From the day one, Hyderabad Muslim leadership is ignoring the Mecca Masjid blast case and subsequent police firing whereas the common Muslims and even Hindus are very much concerned about the blast, Khan added.
"Even if the blast has turned cold for the government, but it has its deep impact on the minds of Muslims and they never forget it."
In one of the press conference conducted by the CLMC Shahid's father Abdul Wahed said that his son can't do this type of inhuman act. He himself has been performing namaz in Mecca Masjid for the 30 years. And that day also Shahid's father performed the namaz in Mecca Masjid. "He expressed his doubt that his son might be under police custody and police wants to kill him, and also wants to defame Muslims. And the same apprehension changed into fact, and Shahid is no more."
"One more fact Civil Liberties wants to present before the people is, after the bomb blast when police started using Shahid's name unofficially, Shahid's father Abdul Wahed, who is retired teacher, filed a petition in Andhra Pradesh High court by stating his apprehensions. On that, police submitted an affidavit in the court that Shahid is not in their custody and Shahid is not wanted in Mecca Masjid blast case."
"And now Home Minister gave a statement that due to the death of suspect the Macca Masjid blast case has turned cold. People are shocked as to why Home Minister has taken this type of stand on Macca Masjid blast case. Whom does he want to satisfy? May be this case is dead for government, may be Muslim leaders has turned cold on this issue, may be the police wants to shield the real culprits, but Civil Liberties promises people that somehow it will expose the criminals who are alive and are very much active to work on their anti-Muslim agenda."
Khan said Muslim leaders did not react to Chidambaram's statement because they want to remain in the good book of the ruling Congress party.
