More Than Half of the Pakistanis are Content; 74% Say "I am Satisfied With my Life":

According to a Gilani Research Foundation survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, majority of the Pakistanis appear to be overall satisfied with their lives. A significant 74% of the respondents claim to be 'a lot' or at least 'somewhat' satisfied. While most people are happy with different aspects of their lives, worsening law and order situation in the country is a source of concern for many.


In a nationally representative survey, men and women from different segments of society were asked " Overall how satisfied are you with your life?" Most of the people (74%) said they are satisfied and only 19% said they have little or no satisfaction with their lives. Seven percent (7%) did not give any response.

To understand people's satisfaction with different aspects of their lives, respondents were asked " How happy or unhappy are you regarding your: income, profession, relatives, relations with others, personal health, and law and order situation?" Majority of the respondents claim to be happy about all of these, except for law and order situation.


Economic Well-Being


With regards to economic wellbeing, most of the people appear to be happy with their income and profession. When the respondents were asked " How happy or unhappy you are regarding your income " 54% said they are happy or very happy about their income and only 14% said they are unhappy or very unhappy. Most of the respondents (56%) also seem to be happy or very happy with their profession.


Personal Interaction


When the same question was asked regarding personal interaction with others, 62% respondents said they are happy or very happy with their relations with others, 55% said they are happy or very happy with their relatives.


Personal Health


The majority of respondents, 56%, said they are happy with their personal health; only 9% said they are unhappy.


Law & Order


Law & Order is the only issue which most of the people seemed to be unhappy about. Only 31% claim to be happy or very happy with the law and order situation, while 39% of the respondents claim to be unhappy or very unhappy about it.

The study was carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The latest survey was carried out among a sample of 2687 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country during 18th & 19th January 2009. Error margin is estimated to be approx. + 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.

Excellent Survey
It would be good if you can give a reference of PIDE's study in 2005 I guess which say 84 percent of the Pakistani women are satisfied with life. It was done by Mubashir Ali and Rizwan Haq
