The JASWANT Episode

Jaswant Singh is a former cavalry officer and has a distinguished family background. It is perhaps his background that rankled with lesser mortals in the BJP. He was one of India's best foreign ministers and he was the one who carried out the prolonged dialogue with Strobe Talbott of the US state Department to forge the basic understanding that led to improved US-India relations. Others have taken credit for what he did for India.

Now he has been ignominiously sacked from the membership of the BJP. His fault? Telling the truth and not varnishing it with the rhetoric that the BJP leaders love and that has to be there in every utterance about Pakistan. Such is the obsession and paranoia about Pakistan in India.
