New Delhi: The BJP-ruled Karnataka today dismissed as "not true" Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's contention that the state had witnessed more communal disturbances in the recent times and maintained that some stray incidents were blown out of proportion.

"A few stray incidents have been blown out of proportion. These incidents were brought under control within 24 hours, which indicates the importance the state government accords to law and order," chief minister BS Yeddyurappa told reporters.

His comments came in the backdrop of remarks by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that some states like Karnataka need to exercise greater vigil to maintain communal peace.

While addressing the chief ministers' meet on Internal Security earlier in the day, Singh had noted that "Karnataka, in particular, has witnessed a number of communal incidents this year. What is more worrisome is that the incidents were not limited to one or two districts".

Countering the remark, Yeddyurappa said he has brought to the notice of the prime minister and home minister P Chidambaram that this was "not true".
