AHSAN WAHEED
India is the biggest democracy in the world, a secular society aspiring to lead South Asia as it flaunts its societal and economic success upon its smaller neighbors. Today as India gormandizes with its powerful Israeli and US friends, the world sees a sorority of military, economic and intelligence sharing conjured up on Lodhi Road, New Delhi, and gaping at the rest of South East Asia, drooling. India of today finds itself in chest thumbing glory and is noticeably breaking free of the balancing act with China in Arunachal Pradesh.
This year it has waged a full blown military campaign, Operation Green Hunt, against its landless, deprived and downtrodden masses, mostly farmers and outcasts brought together by the rapidly growing Maoist or Naxalite Movement in the country. India has also reportedly deployed 300 tanks and 15,000 strong troops on its border with China in Arunachal Pradesh to reinforce its occupation on the province without a legal validation (as the British Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, maintains). Under this megalomania Dr. Singh prepares to meet Obama by the end of this month presumably for a talk over what it must do in Afghanistan.
To understand the wonderland that is this incredible country one has to experience how it thinks. For this a peep into its external intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) would certainly provide a clear snapshot of how India looks out on this region.
