Bal Thackery slammed the Indian Super Star Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar over his remarks "Mumbai for all'.
The founder and chief of the Shiv Sena, a Hindu nationalist Marathi ethnocentric and populist party, Mr. Thackery was quick to counter his 'delusion' over Mumbai belonging to the entire India. According to him, Tendulkar committed a disservice to his own community by claiming to be an Indian first before being a Maharashtrian.
Reportedly Thackery was of view that by giving out such comments Sachin had gotten 'run out' on the pitch of Marathi psyche. This lad wasn't even born when the 'Marathi Manoos' got Mumbai and 105 Marathi people sacrificed their lives to get the town, Thackery held. He told off Tendulkar and said he must refrain from treading the realm of politics and confine himself to cricket alone.
Yet what Tendulkar said was far away from being 'political'. The Patriot just had to confess his love for the country to let out the ethnocentric spasm that characterizes India today. The chain reaction set off in form of responses through Thackery's mouthpiece Saamna provides copious evidence of the degree and extent of fragmentization mottling the country from within.
