ISLAMABAD: Remaining steadfast against the menace of terrorism throughout year 2009, Islamabad Police also emerged successful in countering criminal elements, the murderers, car lifter gangs and robbers.
The commitment and devotion of the police officers and jawans despite several constraints, made them successful against the criminal elements this year as they brought the crime rate down in the year 2009 as compared to year 2008. Islamabad operational police, comprising around 2,500 cops responsible for preventing crime, successfully traced 103 murder cases out of total 130 cases in 2009. The success ratio was more than 50 per cent as compared to the corresponding period of 2008. The police also recovered over 186 stolen vehicles worth millions of rupees. Islamabad Police also arrested 808 outlaws including 389 proclaimed offenders and 1,213 drug pushers during the current year. Police recovered looted items worth Rs 54,35,00075. They were successful in recovering 595 kilograms of charas, 50 kilograms of poppy, 17 kilograms of heroin, 37 kilograms of opium and 35,557 wine bottles. The police registered 5,569 cases in 2009 against 5,656 in 2008. The police sources said that 130 persons were murdered in year 2009 as compared to 114 killings during year 2008.Out of these 130 cases, the source said, 103 murder cases including 24 blind murders were traced.
Giving the break up of these cases, he said four murder cases were registered with Aabpara police station, four with Kohsar, five with Secretariat, 10 with Bhara Kahu, 11 with Margalla, six with Shalimar, eight with Golra, 14 with Tarnol, four with Industrial area, 11 with Sabzi Mandi, 19 in Shehzad town, five in Nilore, four with Sihala police station and 25 with Koral police station. A decline was witnessed in the cases of attempt to murder as 115 attempts of murder were registered in 2009 as compared to 124 cases during the last year.
This year, 304 'hurt cases' were registered in the police stations of the Capital as compared to 332 cases in the year 2008.In all, 135 cases were registered in 2009 under Zina and kidnapping and 128 criminals involved in these cases were nabbed. A total of 15 cases were registered in Capital's police stations under 365-A PPC. More than 100 cases of fatal road accidents, 100 cases of non-fatal road accidents, 33 dacoity cases, 257 robbery cases, 54 day burglary, 134 night burglary cases, 259 general theft cases, 420 car theft cases, 107 cases of vehicles' theft, 129 cases of motorcycle theft, 77 cases of tempered chassis number of cars were registered. app
