Telangana Movement, a quickly panning out violent unrest has already caused 22 casualties (all to suicide) in a matter of days, with 5 activists committing suicide on Tuesday alone.
Inflicting a heavy blow to the region's businesses, IT sector, and other corporate enterprise, the movement has rapidly transformed from an ideological struggle into a full scale 'in your face agitation' from all sides.
Suicide and hunger-strikes, the two protest tactics that have vastly attainted heroic connotations in India are no news to us. In fact Andhra Pradesh, of which Telangana is currently an integral part, became the first linguistically carved out State after a revolutionary died on a hunger strike protesting for the same.
Both history and tradition have afforded social permissiveness toward violence, agitation and self-victimization in India, often under the clout of 'peaceful' Gandhian protest. This time too, the biggest weapon of unrest is hunger-strike with K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) the chief of TRS, its biggest ambassador.
