Veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader Syed Ali Gilani has emphasised that India has converted the entire south Asian region into a dangerous zone due to its state terrorism in occupied Kashmir, reported on Sunday.
Addressing a conference on dialogue between world religions at Jamia Millia in New Delhi, today, Syed Ali Gilani said that the people of Kashmir were being victimised for demanding their inalienable right to self-determination.
He maintained that no power on earth could deter them from continuing their liberation struggle. He criticised the Indian media for not projecting the real picture of what was happening in occupied Kashmir. Syed Ali Gilani asked the Indian civil society members to mount pressure on their government to read writing on the wall and restore Kashmiris' basic rights.
And, the forum patronised by veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader Syed Ali Gilani he urged India to accept disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir and take effective steps to resolve Kashmir dispute by holding plebiscite.
A spokesman of the forum in a statement issued in Srinagar said, complete shutdown observed on Saturday has sent a loud and clear message to the world that Kashmiris reject India's illegal occupation on Jammu and Kashmir and they are determined to continue their struggle for right of self-determination.
"There is a substantial point for New Delhi to acknowledge the reality and honour the Kashmiris' aspirations," he added
The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a media interview in Srinagar emphasised that Kashmir is a political dispute which could be resolved through peaceful negotiations involving Pakistan, India and genuine leadership of the Kashmiri people.
He said that Kashmiris' liberation struggle was genuine and based on the principles of justice. The APHC Chairman urged India to honour the commitment made by its leaders with the international community to give the Kashmiris the right to decide their fate themselves.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar on Sunday, members of Peoples Tribunal comprising Indian human rights and Non-Governmental Organisations said that Indian troops were committing gross human rights violations under the protection of black laws in occupied Kashmir.
They demanded repeal of draconian laws, judicial inquiry into fake encounters and custodial disappearances. The speakers included Indian jurists, Hosbet Suresh, DN Baruah, Malay Sengupta besides Professor Anuradha Chenoy and Professor Kamal Chenoy.
Meanwhile, several people were injured when Indian troops resorted to firing, baton charge and excessive teargas shelling to break up anti-India demonstrators in Maisuma, Baramulla and Sopore towns. An Indian trooper was shot dead by his colleague following a heated argument between them at Puldoda in Doda.
