Failed States. The Shev Sena vials of hate about "Mumbai for Maharashtrians only" is more insidious than the most vocal Nazi racism that was built on ethnic cleansing and deportation of "aliens". The Shiv Sena "war against North-Indian's" is more profound than the chauvinistic malevolence of the KKK that propagates the racial superiority of a race.

The Thakaray's supremacy vitriol against the "Italians" is actually rhetoric against all Christians. When the ignoble Sena bans Australian cricketers from Mumbai-it is actually spewing malignity and malicious venom against all people of European origin. The villainous Sena's ethnocentrism opposing Mayawati is really its misogynic policy of continued enslavement of the Dalits.

The Sena's obnoxious diatribes against Jews and the Chinese are not isolated murmers-they are part and parcel of the Swastika heralding philosophy that sees Hindu dominance over all other faiths and races. The Shiv Sena vitriol against Muslims is disguised as a tirade against the Khans. While the press reports and the Shiv Sena TV and newspaper outlets simply mention "Khan", the term term "Khan" implies all Muslims. Shiv Sen'a odious campaign against "foreigners" in Mumbai is to displace and move out all Muslims and all North Indians from Maharashtra, by coercion, and intimidation. The current virulence of the Shiv Sena is nothing new to South Asia. Shiv Sena's KKK type of philosophers Lala Hardayal said this in the 40s-and this part and parcel of the Thakaray philosophy:-

(1) Hindu Sangathan [extermination by murder or deportation],

The venomousness of the Shiv Sena and related bodies have to be seen in the light of the philosophy of those that the Thakarays worship.

MUMBAI: Stepping up its vitriolic attack on Shah Rukh Khan, Shiv Sena today branded the actor as a "traitor" for his comments on Pakistani cricketers' participation in IPL but in a U-turn said it will not oppose the screening of his new film 'My Name is Khan'.

"Let Shah Rukh release the film with the blessings of the Italian woman (Sonia Gandhi) and Yuvraj (Rahul Gandhi) without any protection and let it run in any theatre anywhere in the country. Sena will not oppose it," Sena chief Bal Thackeray said in an editorial in party mouthpiece 'Saamana'.

The Sena had earlier threatened to stall the release of the film in the metropolis where posters of the movie were pulled down and theatre owners warned against its screening.

"A Khan named Shah Rukh tells us to love Pakistan but nobody feels suffocated due to his treachery," he said.

"Traitors, do whatever you want to do with the blessings of Congress. Sena won't stop you. Why should the heads of Shiv Sainiks bleed and they be jailed without any reason," the editorial said.

While there is much discussion of the Jaish and the Lashkar in the media, the international press has not realised the profound evil that resides in the Senas, Dals and the Sangs of Bharat (aka India). The lashkars rose up as a response to occupation, aggression and genocide. The Senas and the Sangs had their genesis in "Shuddhi and Sangathan" (Deport, kill or Convert) philosophies of the forties. The RSS and the Shiv Sena type of organization proliferate the Bharati landscape. They are armed, trained, and full of venom against the Muslims, the Christians, and the Dalits and Shudras. The violence perpetuated on the Dalits and the Christians in Orissa and Bihar is mimicked on the rape and genocide inflicted on the Muslims of Bihar and other places.

Today the Shiv Sena is forcing the cab drivers to learn Marhati-or face deportation. Yesterday the same type of organization forced Muslims and Christians to sing religious hymns which contradicted their religious beliefs. In the forties, the Vandhe Mahtram was forced on the Muslims and it forced the government of the Indian National Congress to collapse. In the recent past the BJP has not only ruled Bharat. The evils of Xenophobia has destroyed many cities and countries. Germany ruled by the Nazis were so enamored by their race and language that they wanted all Germans under a single government.

The rise and rise of the RSS and Shiv Sena have complicated the politics of Bharat (aka India) and their popular support shake the so called secular foundations of the country which was formed as an anti-thesis to religion, and race.

Today, the bigoted racists who murdered Mohandas Gandhi are running the center of commerce and currency of Bharat (aka India). The Shiv Sena is run by one of the worst racists on the planet-Mr. Bal Thakaray. His nephew runs another racist outfit now called MNS. Both organizations are threatening all HIndi speaking people to leave their state of Maharashtra. This is very similar to what the General Mankeshaw thugs did in Bengal and this is exactly what is happening in Gujarat.

Maharashtra is for Maharashtrians say the Shiv Sena and the MNS. There is insanity in their logic. Their goal is to give employment to the suffering farmers of their state. Their inane logic appeals to the people of Mumbai and Maharashtra. If they throw out or scare away the penury stricken Cab drivers, then the farmers can get jobs in Mumbai

The Shiv Sena is on a rampage in Mumbai and may destroy Bollywood. It has come out against many of the major Bollywood actors, and is waging an Anti-Hindi campaign in Mumbai and the entire state. This cannot be good for Mumbai, nor for Bollywood.

"We banned Pakistani cricketers despite the fact that we are cricket lovers. The ban is because of Pakistan's support to terror acts in India, including 26/11 Mumbai attacks," Thackeray said.

Shah Rukh who supports Pakistan gets protection, the editorial added.

Unfazed by the Sena threat, the actor stuck to his stand that Pakistani players should have been included in the upcoming IPL and that "Mumbai is for all Indians".

A statement in 'Dopahar Ka Saamna', a sister publication of 'Saamana', had said, "On one hand, while SRK is openly displaying his love for Pakistani players, actor Aamir Khan has even put nationalistic sentiments in his utterances on this issue.

"According to Aamir, if any cricketer is good, he would like to have him in his team, it makes no difference to him, which country he belongs to."

Shah Rukh had said, "I don't know what the issue is all about…I don't know what I am supposed to retract. Am I supposed to retract the fact I'm an Indian but I don't want anyone to come to my country.

"What all that I've said is that I would like people to come to my country to participate in the biggest event and it scares me to say anything because our stakes are very high."

The film, which marks the return of the famous on-screen pair Shah Rukh and Kajol after a gap of eight years, is a love-story in the backdrop of post 9/11 America. Bharati states are based on language. The current rioting in Mumbai and Maharashtra was inevitable. The formation of states on the basis of language and ethnicity was wrong. Bharat had 560 states. It tried to amalgamate the states into linguistic havens. The Language based havens have not become xenophobic forcing Delhi to form fifty such states-each seeking its own agenda and all seeking some distance from Delhi in terms of sovereignty and secession. Kashmir and Assam for example want total independence from Delhi. Othe states are in varying degrees of confusion and chaos-putting the entire idea of "India" into flux.

The Shiv Sena rule in Mumbai is like the KKK winning the elections in Los Angeles, and then asking all Hispanics to leave California. It is like the government in LA forcing all the cab drivers to learn German because the KKK reveres Hitler. The Shiv Sena fascism is affecting the business climate of Mumbai and impacting the image of India.

Ram gives us some insight into the Shiv Sena.


Shiv Sena has a complex history. It was supported by industrialists and partly nurtured by a section of Congress leadership decades ago. The idea then was to smash the left trade unions, which were struggling for workers rights in an honest way. Later the same Shiv Sena attacked the South Indians, then Gujaratis and finally North Indians for sometime before jumping on the Rath (chariot) of Hinduvta spearhead by BJP's Lal Krishna Advani. Shiv Sena has been the most firm ally of BJP and its communal politics all through. Shiv Sena's supremo Bal Thackeray has also been indicted in the Srikrishna Commission report, a report which has been put into cold storage by the Congress government. Interestingly Shiv Sena, SS, presents its role in Mumbai violence as being that of protecting Hindus, a formulation which is from the World of make believe, which presents victim as the culprit, as Shrikrishna Commission makes it very clear.

The methods employed by Shiv Sena earlier and MNS (Maharashtra Nav Nirnman Sena) of Raj Thackeray show the parallels with the ones' employed by Hitler's foot soldiers, i.e. to intimidate people through street violence. In this direction on regular basis Shiv Sena in particular attacked artists, Gulam Ali, a Gazal singer from Pakistan, M.F. Hussain, a Painter, and now Shahrukh Khan. In these 'storm trooper' methods it SS had been associated with the parallel ones from RSS stream, Bajrang Dal etc. The idea is to vandalize and make a glaring attack on liberal values of democracy. While outfits like SS, MNS and Bajrang Dal are fascists, they use democratic space, the lapses of opportunist centralist politics to come up in the social space. Hitler also used the democratic space to come, to abolish the democratic space itself. The analogies of such formations with Hitler, fascists are too glaring to be ignored. They are a product politics of vested interests, taking advantage of centrist formations like Congress and than turning into Frankenstein's monsters.

With Bal Thackeray trying to pass on the mantle of his fascist politics, Uddhav and Raj, son and nephew respectively, claimed the inheritance. Bal Thackeray decided to anoint his son Uddhav as the heir apparent. Peeved by this the more aggressive Raj launched his own outfit, Maharashtra Nav Nirman Sena. In the formative period of MNS, Congress again played a complicit role by sitting pretty when Raj unleashed his aggression against hapless taxi drivers from North India and Bihar. This acted as the tonic for the MNS, and it became bold enough to unleash rampage time and over again. It has come to stay as a political force. The role of Congress has been very compromising as for as formation of Shiv Sena and MNS are concerned.

Shiv Sena- MNS primarily belong to divisive- fascist anti national ideology of communalism and regionalism. Their disregard for the values of Indian Constitution is there for all to see. Their politics also proves that divisive ideologies strengthen each other. Both these outfits, particularly Shiv Sena has been using both these sectarianisms for its political benefit.

Shiv Sena and its offshoot, Maharashtra Nav Nirman Sena, both thrive on the divisive sentiments. The spirit of National integration is being attacked by the actions of these regional forces. We should not target our citizens in the name of religion or region. The encouragement of Hate against Pakistan is shortsighted and is playing to the crude emotions, ignoring the deeper causes of terrorism, for that the finger of accusation should point to the US policies which has been pursing its politics of control in the region and has used Pakistan as the base and ally for its ambitions of appropriating this Black Gold. One must support the rights of all our citizens within the limits of Indian Constitution and restrain the regional and communal forces for the sake of national progress.
