As Marmite started legal proceedings against the BNP after they used a picture of a jar of Marmite in their election broadcast with the strap line "Love Britain, Vote BNP", Nick Griffin, leader of the British National Party launched the BNP's election manifesto in Stoke on Trent with a pledge that if elected they would stop any more Muslims coming to live in the UK and offer repatriation packages to immigrants to leave the the UK.

The launch was met with a large Stop The BNP protest with chanting protesters accusing the ultra right wing BNP of being a fascist and racist party. There was also a group of English Defence League (EDL) members who for the first time joined with BNP in an Anti-Islamic protest as part of their St Georges Day 'celebrations'. Up until now the EDL has claimed not to have racist or fascist connections. Several videos have gone up on YouTube showing EDL violence and racist chanting including "Allah is a peado". Although they have the power to do so police did not arrest any EDL supporters making such chants for inciting racial hatred.
Griffin, who has personally been accused of being a fascist and racist, told gathered media that the BNP did not need them as the BNP "speak directly to the British public".In addition to anti-Islamic pledges Griffin also pledged to pull British troops out of Afghanistan.
The British National Party currently have no elected members in the UK parliament and it is not expected that they will gain any seats in the coming UK general election. They did secure two seats in the European elections where they sit in a grouping with other extreme right wing parties.The BNP received less than 1% of the national vote in the 2005 UK general election.
