LHC CJ takes notice of rape of seven girls, boys

LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif, taking suo motu notice of kidnapping and rape of seven girls and boys in Daska, directed the district police officer, Sialkot, to appear in court on May 6 (Thursday).

The CJ took notice on news items, treating it as a constitutional petition, and directed the DPO to appear in person. The chief justice remarked, "The electronic and print media has flashed the plight of the disgruntled seven minor girls and boys, who became victim of rape after kidnapping in Daska city during the last one-and-a-half months. Out of them, two girls expired and as many other are still braving for life at two healthcare institutions of the provincial metropolis."

The CJ said the spate of immoral activity had caused unrest and anguish among the local population, adding that the courts, being the custodian of life, honour and liberty of citizens as enshrined in the Constitution, were bound to come to the rescue, especially of the less privileged section of the society. The chief justice also directed the advocate general, Punjab, to appear for assistance in the matter.
