Tension grips in Kashmir, 1 more killed

Srinagar, Aug 3 (AIP): Kashmir continues to remain in tense amid round the clock violence reported in several areas through the night. An 8-year-old was killed during overnight clashes in the Batmaloo area. Trooper enforced strict curfew in Kashmir on Tuesday.




Tuesday morning came with another strict curfew across the Kashmir Valley.




Last day, atleast eight people along with minor boy died in a day of violent clashes between protesters and security forces.




Units of regular Army have been deployed on Srinagar-Jammu Highway right from Qazigund upto Srinagar.




Reports reaches to Agence India Press says that hundreds of Army personnel have taken up position all along the highway, while sealing off all the roads leading to the highway right from Ganderbal up to Srinagar By-Pass.




Meanwhile, a strict curfew remains in force across South Kashmir in Anantnag and Kulgam districts.




Reports from Kangan say that demonstrators tried to defy curfew this morning but police and paramilitary forces deployed in strength in the area fired teargas shells to quell the demonstrators.




Whileas, protests rocks again in Budgam and Srinagar.




In Sheikhpora Budgam, a fresh clash erupts, reports say two persons have been injured in police action so far.




In Srinagar, many people have been shot at in Qamarwari area of Srinagar along the Srinagar Muzaffarabad Road Tuesday morning.




According to locals, a group of youth was fired upon by paramilitary and police forces when they were demonstrating peacefully. One youth, identified as Meraj-ud-Din Lone, son of Mohammad of the same area is reported to be dead.




Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference (G) head, Syed Ali Shah Geelani today announced a march to martyrs cemetery in Eidgah, Srinagar on Tuesday and asked people from all across Kashmir to join the march.


He had yesterday appealed the government to lift curfew for today to allow the rally.




"A procession will be taken out at 2 pm tomorrow from the SKIMS hospital to the Eidgah Martyrs' graveyard where the Gayibana Jinazah (funeral prayers in absentia) of all the Martyrs would be offered at 3 pm. After that Nafl Salat will be followed by Dua-e-Qunoot Nazila," Geelani said yesterday in press conference.
