Bangalore CM Yeddyurappa caught in land scam

Bangalore: After the mining mafia, a land scam has now hit the Yeddyurappa government. The Karnataka chief minister is accused of flouting norms to gift government land to his son.

"I'm requesting honourable speaker to convene a special three-day session for a detailed discussion on illegal scandals from past ten years," said Karnatakapa Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.

That's the response of Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa who is running for cover after Opposition party Congress petitioned the governor on Sunday to dismiss his government - no enquiry, no explanation - only a special legislature discussion on scams. Yeddyurappa has been facing allegations of denotifying prime government land to favour his son and son-in-law. The Congress has submitted memorandum to the governor with documents.

"Most scandalous government - scam after scam, the skeletons are coming out of the cupboard and the chief minister himself is caught," R.V. Deshpande, Congress president.

And Yeddyurappa's IT Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu is also under fire. His son Katta Jagadish was arrested by the Lokayukta, the anti-corruption cell, last week. Jagadish allegedly tried to bribe a witness to not give evidence against him but the senior Katta has a different take.

"I'm a linguistic minority so I'm being targeted…(I've worked hard for party and for government and in ministerial career no drop of allegation has come against me… this is the first time I'm facing criticism… some conspiracy is there)," said Katta Subaramanya Naidu.

Even as the scam-hit government tries in vain to save its face, the Lokayukta says he's unearthing more evidence of Katta's wife also being involved in a Rs. 100-crore land scam.
