Strong, stable Balochistan utmost dream: Kayani

QUETTA: Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani on Monday said that a strong, stable and thriving Balochistan had remained the utmost dream of the Army as it can help to make Pakistan prosperous.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Military College in Sui, he said the natural resources of Balochistan can make it prosperous if properly utilised for the welfare of the people. The province is enriched with natural resources and its people have the right over them, he added.

Governor Balochistan Zulfiqar Magsi, Chief Minister Aslam Raisani, Commander Southern Command Lieutenant General Javed Zia and a large number of parliamentarians were also present on the occasion.

While making the announcement to convert the Sui Cantonment into an education city, he said, "In line with the aspirations of people and to contribute towards the government's initiative of the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan, the Pak Army has established an education city in Sui to ensure quality education for the people of Balochistan."

Kayani noted that after Jhelum and Murree military colleges, giving due importance to Balochistan, the third college, Sui Military College, has been established in the province. He maintained that the Pakistan Army had planned to induct 10,000 Baloch youth to remove the sense of deprivation and double the percentage of those joining the forces from Balochistan.

Highlighting the efforts of the Army for the welfare of people of Balochistan in different sectors, the COAS said that the Balochistan Public School Sui, FG High School, Women Welfare Center and Balochistan Institute of Technical Education were already being run in the Pakistan Education City, Sui.

The Army and the PPL, in a joint venture, has undertaken the construction of 50-bed hospital at Sui, he said, adding under the BITE programme, 1,700 Baloch students were imparted training and majority had got jobs.

Addressing the ceremony and talking to media persons later, Zulfiqar Magsi sought Kayani's help in the recovery of missing persons as, according to him, it was aggravating the situation of the province.

He said the individuals detained by any law enforcement agencies must be produced before the court as not doing that benefitted the anti-state elements. Besides that, the governor added, the families of missing persons also suffered beyond expression.

He praised the PESC and said Balochistan people had realised the importance of education for a positive change in the society. "We have always urged Baloch nationalists for negotiations for resolving their problems and peace in the province," Magsi said.

The Balochistan chief minister termed the conversion of cantonment into an education city as innovation to remove the grievances of people of Balochistan. Talking to media men during his visit to the Pakistan Education City in Sui, Raisani hailed the establishment of the PESC, saying withdrawal of the forces from Dera Bugti and conversion of Sui cantonment into an education city was one of the pledges made by the PPP government, which it had materialised.

"Not barrel of gun but pen can steer Balochistan out of the prevailing trust deficit," he noted and added that use of force had never been the resolution to any problems in the history of human being.

Expressing his displeasure over the killing of low-profile people, he said these are against the norms of Baloch people and those involved in such activities were not serving the cause of Baloch people.

To a question, he renewed the offer of a dialogue to the disgruntled Baloch brethren for the durable peace in Balochistan. "Sit with me and share the grievances and let us make the way out of all grievances," he said while giving a message to the displeased elements.

The chief minister, however, expressing optimism said that the law and order situation in Balochistan had improved in the last couple of months. He maintained that the nationalists in the All Parties Conference held recently realised the fact that target killing was leading Balochistan towards the verge of destruction.

He urged parents to ensure enrollment of their children to the Military College and other education institutions so that they could play their role in the betterment of the county. Earlier, Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, accompanied by Governor Zulfiqar Ali Magsi and Chief Minister Raisani, inaugurated the newly-constructed building of the Military College.
