The yearly Monsoon showers have become a dreaded nuisance in this country ever since it forgot to stop raining last year. Part and parcel with it this year is the viral epidemic that first took the nation by surprise last year. The dengue contagion this year began earlier than expected and has gripped talons in almost all the major cities and towns in Punjab.


This acute fever brought on by a virus vector (certain silver spotted species of mosquitoes) can occur in two forms: Dengue Fever and Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever. Symptoms for Dengue Fever include sudden high fever; nausea and vomiting; severe headache and pain behind the eyes; muscles and joints. Dengue Hemorrhagic fever is more common among children and is more severe, it involves bleeding and sometimes shock - leading to death.
